ReStore, a sustainable funding initiative launched to support the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity, aims to collect around 10,000 pounds of aluminium by July 31 to win an ongoing drive. The winning organisation will get a $6,000 reward for collecting 10,000 pounds of aluminium. The fund from the drive will be used to assist Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity in constructing affordable houses. The Rapid City ReStore is one of 100 organisations taking part in an aluminium push throughout the United States and Canada.
Anyone who wishes to contribute aluminium may do so by bringing items to the ReStore between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Donations may also be dropped off at the ReStore's outdoor collection spot on the west side of the building, beside the ReStore sign, at any time. The Rapid City ReStore can be found at 610 E. Omaha St.
"First place is a pretty aggressive goal. So far, we have around 3,000 pounds and would like to get to 6,000 by July 31. This is an opportunity to help save our local landfills, support sustainability for our region, and it's all for a good cause. The $6,000 would be put toward the building of an affordable home and help bring strength, stability and independence to families in need of a decent place to live," said Dallas Dalin, manager of the Black Hills Area Habitat ReStores in Rapid City and Spearfish.
Last year was the first time Rapid City's ReStore participated in the aluminium drive, and the shop finished third and received a $2,000 award, according to Dalin. Novelis, a worldwide manufacturer of aluminium rolled goods, and recycler of aluminium, is sponsoring the aluminium drive. Novelis is donating recycling bins and monetary donations to Habitat for Humanity in the United States and Canada to boost sustainability.
According to Dalin, the ReStore in Rapid City is the biggest monthly contributor to Black Hills Area Habitat For Humanity. The ReStore is a fundraising project for BHAHFH, with all earnings going towards the construction of affordable housing. Though the aluminium campaign concludes on July 31, Dalin noted the ReStore takes metal contributions year-round, including aluminium, steel, copper, and brass. Larger nonworking appliances may also be donated to the ReStore for recycling.
