
The United States imported 881,000 tonnes of crude and dried bauxite in the third quarter of 2021 (ended September 30), which reflected a hike of 147,000 tonnes or 20.03 per cent quarter-on-quarter, found the latest date of the US Census Bureau. In the second quarter of the year, the United States imported 734,000 tonnes of crude and dried bauxite, which was also up from the previous quarter.

On a year-on-year calculation, the United States’ crude and dried bauxite imports in Q3 2021 edged 11.66 per cent higher than 789,000 tonnes.
The total imports of crude and dried bauxite by the United States from January to September came in at 2.310 million tonnes, however, down by 3.75 per cent from 2.4 million tonnes during the same period last year.
Jamaica remained the prime exporter of the ore, supplying 623,000 tonnes to the US in Q3 2021. But compared to the previous quarter, the export volume inched down by 1.58 per cent or 10,000 tonnes from 633,000 tonnes. On a year-on-year basis, the export in Q3 stood 14.42 per cent lower than 728,000 tonnes. The United States total imports of crude and dried bauxite from Jamaica during January-September amounted to 1.89 million tonnes, down by 3.08 per cent from 1.95 million tonnes Y-o-Y.

Turkey exported 250,000 tonnes of crude and dried bauxite to the US in Q3 2021, a jump of 231 per cent from 75,500 tonnes in Q2 and a surge of 311.86 per cent from 60,700 in Q3 2020. Total exports from January to September stood at 382,000 tonnes, soaring by 299 per cent from 95,700 tonnes a year ago.
