Turkey's aluminium plates, sheets and strips exports rise to UK but drop to Germany in 2018

Turkey mostly exports aluminium rolled products globally. Assan Alüminyum is Tukey’s leading manufacturer in the flat rolled aluminium sector, producing flat rolled products (coil, sheet and foil) since its establishment in 1988. Assan Alüminyum accounts for more than half of the flat rolled aluminium production in Turkey and exports to more than 70 countries around the world.

According to our third party data, Turkey’s aluminium plates, sheets and strips exports grew the last year 2018, from 169,377 tonnes in 2017 to 195,126 tonnes, up 15 per cent. In 2016, the export volume was at 209,594 tonnes, which indicates that even though Turkey’s export volume rose in 2018 from its previous year but stood down by 6 per cent from 2016.

Consequently, Turkey’s exports to the United Kingdom rose in 2018, from 22,762 tonnes in 2017 to 28,068 tonnes, up 23 per cent year-on-year. In 2016, Turkey’s aluminium plates, sheets and strips exports to the UK were at 27,256 tonnes, up 20 per cent from 2017 but down 3 per cent from 2018.

But to Germany, Turkey’s exports recorded a year-on-year drop. In 2016, the country had exported 37,933 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips to Germany, which in the subsequent year 2017 dropped 17 per cent to 31,569 tonnes. 2018 again saw a further drop in Turkey’s aluminium plates, sheets and strips exports to Germany to 28,068 tonnes, down 26 per cent from 2016 and 11 per cent from 2017.
