In early June 2021, TRIMET at its Voerde aluminium site engaged the freshly installed casting plant for the production of aluminium sows.

The Voerde aluminium smelter with an attached anode factory is now capable to produce ingot metal itself.
As yet, the site supplied its 99.9% pure electrolytic aluminium exclusively in liquid form to customers and the foundry at TRIMET's Essen site.
Dr Andreas Lützerath, a member of the management board of TRIMET Aluminium SE, said: "The casting plant allows greater flexibility, enabling us to meet changing market requirements and customer demands even better. The high metal purity of the cast aluminium also meets the increasing demand from the processing industry."
The new plant can cast 20 aluminium sows of 780 kilograms each in an hourly cycle and it is designed as a casting carousel. The entire process from casting, skimming, labelling, and weighing to depositing the sows on a conveyor belt remains automated, setting a new technical standard. These measures certify continually high product quality. The new plant also further leverages and ensures occupational health and safety for employees.
