
The U.S. total exports of aluminium including scrap were essentially unchanged during the first three months of 2019 compared with those of the same period in the previous year. Total exports came in at 741,000 in the mentioned period, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey. The U.S. exported 260,000 tonnes of aluminium (crude metals and alloys, plate, sheets, bars, etc., and scrap) in March 2019, from 263,000 tonnes exported in March 2018.
Exports of crude metal and semi-fabricated products declined by 20% and 16% respectively in three months period of 2019 compared with those in the same period of 2018. Scrap exports increased by 17% year-on-year.
{alcircleadd}The leading destinations for total aluminium exports in the first quarter of 2019 were Mexico (24%), Canada (18%), and China (16%).

Mexico imported 180,000 tonnes of aluminium from the U.S. during January-March 2019. In March alone, imports came in at 58,700 tonnes. The country imported 31,500 tonnes, 99,600 tonnes, and 48,400 tonnes of crude metals and alloys, semi-fabricated products, and scrap respectively during three months of 2019.
Canada’s imports of aluminium from the U.S. stood at 133,000 tonnes in the first three months of 2019, from 164,000 tonnes in the same period last year. The country imported 25,300 tonnes, 84,200 tonnes, and 23,700 tonnes of crude metals and alloys, semi-fabricated products, and scrap respectively during three months of 2019.
China imported 119,000 tonnes of aluminium from the U.S. during January-March 2019. In March, imports stood at 41,100 tonnes. China imported 148 tonnes, 5,820 tonnes, and 113,000 tonnes of crude metals and alloys, semi-fabricated products, and scrap from the U.S. respectively during three months of 2019.
