The US exports of aluminium semi-finished products plunge 22.64% YoY and 7% MoM in May

The US exports of aluminium semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) dropped 21,600 tonnes or 22.64% year-on-year to 73,800 tonnes in May 2019. On a month on month comparison, the export volume declined 7.05% from April export volume of 79,400 tonnes, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey.
Semi-finished products exports stood at 379,000 tonnes in the first five months of 2019 as compared to 459,000 tonnes in the first five months of 2018. This represents a drop of 80,000 tonnes or 17.43% year-on-year.

Exports to Mexico came in at 31,500 tonnes in May 2019 as compared to 44,000 tonnes in May 2018. Exports declined 13.93% month-on-month. During January-May, aluminium semi-finished products exports recorded 168,000 tonnes.
Exports to Canada stood at 28,900 tonnes in May 2019, from 34,200 tonnes in May 2018. Exports increased by 5.47% month-on-month. Total aluminium semi-finished exports stood at 140,000 tonnes in January-May 2019. Exports to China increased by 41.41% year-on-year and 24.42% month-on-month in May 2019. The US exported 3,210 tonnes in May 2019 and 11,600 tonnes in the first five months of 2019.
