The US aluminium semi-finished imports fell in September for sixth consecutive month, Jan-Sept imports up by 9.52%

The US imports of aluminium semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) totalled 105,000 tonnes in September, unchanged from September 2018’s data. On a month on month comparison, the import volume decreased 8.7% or 10,000 tonnes from August total of 115,000 tonnes, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey. This marked the sixth straight month of declines.

Imports of aluminium semi-finished products from the global market stood at 1,150,000 tonnes in the nine months, indicating an increase of 9.52% or 100,000 year-on-year. The US had imported 1,050,000 tonnes in the first nine months of 2018.

The US imports of total aluminium (crude metal and alloys, aluminium semi-finished products and scrap) in September edged lower by 56.45% year-on-year. Imports amounted to 206,000 tonnes as compared to 473,000 tonnes. Aluminium imports fell 12.34% month-on-month.

Total aluminium imports reduced by 24.53% in nine-month period compared with the same period last year. The US imported 3,630,000 tonnes of aluminium in January-September, from 4,810,000 tonnes imported in January-September 2018.
