US-based surface science technology platform Talica has acquired Minneapolis-area company Hard Anodize. The move would help Talica expand its precision aluminium anodising and specialised surface treatment capabilities for the aerospace, defence, medical device and high-performance manufacturing sectors. Financial terms of the transaction are yet to be disclosed.

With more than 30 years of experience, Hard Anodize provides technical metal finishing services for mission-critical components where precision, quality and performance are critical. The company operates under an AS9100-certified quality management system and ISO 9001 certification, while also holding NADCAP process approvals for commercial aerospace and defence programmes.
Its capabilities comprise Type II anodising, Type III hard anodising, Type I chromate conversion coating, Type II RoHS-compliant conversion coating and precision masking, alongside specialised surface treatments for mission-critical hardware.
The acquisition adds these aluminium finishing capabilities to Talica’s existing expertise in passivation, electropolishing, precision cleaning and other advanced surface treatment technologies.

Acquisition expands Talica’s high-performance market reach
The deal also extends Talica’s presence into the Upper Midwest and broadens its ability to serve customers across aerospace, defence, medical devices, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and other precision manufacturing industries.
Paul Belliveau, CEO of Talica, stated, “We are incredibly excited to welcome Hard Anodize to Talica.” He added that Talica was established to bring together specialised surface technology businesses with strong teams and cultures.
“We believe Hard Anodize’s highly technical capabilities will be an ideal addition to Talica’s family of companies,” Belliveau noted.
For Hard Anodize, the combination is expected to create opportunities to expand its service offering and provide new opportunities for its workforce.
Former Hard Anodize co-owner Brian Alesen mentioned that the company was founded with a focus on “superior anodising services, with an emphasis on customer service and product quality.” He added, “I’m excited to see how being a part of Talica will bring new services to our customers and new opportunities to our team members.”
The acquisition of Hard Anodize, therefore, expands not only Talica’s geographical footprint but also its portfolio of precision aluminium surface treatment technologies, especially for applications where stringent quality, certification and performance requirements are essential.
