Hindalco, a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is based in Rayagada, Odisha, and is India’s largest producer of copper and aluminium. It is also recognised as the world’s biggest aluminium company by revenue, with a growing presence in copper and speciality alumina.

Building on past projects

This contract follows earlier projects executed by TAKRAF for Hindalco. In 2021, the company delivered India’s longest overland conveyor system for the Utkal Alumina Refinery in Odisha.

That project featured two conveyors measuring 14.5 km and 3.6 km, designed to move 4.5 million tonnes of bauxite each year from mine to refinery. With a rated capacity of 2,850 tonnes per hour, the system was designed to cross complex terrain and multiple obstacles.

Scope of the new order

The latest scope calls for a complete handling set-up. TAKRAF will deliver a stacking circuit capable of 1,500 t/h, a reclaiming circuit rated at 1,200 t/h, one slewing stacker, one bucket wheel reclaimer and five in-plant conveyors running a total of 2.6 km.

It will also provide two apron feeders, two belt feeders and supporting equipment, including belt scales, magnetic separators, metal detectors, hoists, diverter gates and dust suppression and extraction systems. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Strengthening the partnership

Hindalco has been a long-term client for TAKRAF, and this order reflects its focus on modernising infrastructure to back its bauxite and alumina operations.

Confirming the deal, TAKRAF said, “This contract is a testament to the trust and confidence our valued clients place in TAKRAF Group. We extend our sincere thanks to the sales team and all departments involved for their dedication and exceptional work in securing this important project.”
