SUS Corporation, a leading producer of aluminium profiles in Japan, have recently launched the t2-01 aluminium unit house. This is a new type of 4R architecture that uses sustainability norms within its manufacturing protocol. The four “R” of 4R stands for - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Remain.

The recycled aluminium produced in the casting plant of SUS is used for the manufacturing of structural columns, beams and roof members of the t2-01 aluminium unit house. As per the company, only about 3 per cent of the energy is required for producing primary aluminium from recycled aluminium. It helps to reduce the overall emission of carbon dioxide, which in turn supports a circular use of materials for more sustainable usage. The sale of the t2-01 aluminium unit house has started on November 4, 2025, after the official announcement occurred on October 30.

These aluminium unit houses are efficient for use by a single person, for the formation of workstations, for accommodation facilities, and for movable stores or container-type data centres. It is manufactured with a 1,200 millimetre grid, with a standard two-by-five module measuring 2,400 by 6,000 millimetres. The structure uses mechanical joints built with bolts and screws, which postulates the fact that it could be used very easily and relocated by trucks at any point in time.
The unit is fully manufactured with aluminium to maintain its overall appearance, making it weather-resistant for a long period of time, and thus making it more cost-effective. According to SUS, the t2-01 meets all the ZEH insulation grade 5 standards that would mainly be used for manufacturing Japanese homes from the year 2030. This offers high airtightness within the aluminium house, and is built to tolerate a seismic grade of standard 3. Moreover, tests showed that there is no water leakage within the aluminium house during any change of weather. The project mainly aims to create living and working spaces that are more effective and can be reused, relocated from one place to another, and fully recycled to ensure their overall sustainability.
