Strict power rationing in Guizhou and Guangxi may affect 4.4 million mt of annual aluminium production capacity

The Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) survey revealed that in 2021, Guizhou Provincial Energy issued a notice on the orderly power utilisation plan in Guizhou Province. The main motive behind the plan was to respond to the power supply issue in the local regions and also to ensure a safe and stable operation of the Guizhou power grid. The implementation comes with three parts: prevention and pre-control, graded early warning, and graded response.

The plan includes 4 alumina plants in Guizhou Province (installed annual production capacity of 4.4 million per tonnes, excluding Guizhou Qizheng) and also 5 aluminium plants (installed compliance annual production capacity of 1.34 million per tonne and the current functioning annual production capacity of 1.3 million per tonne).

Outlook For The Indian Aluminium Industry

The news about the power restrictions in Guangxi has been fermented once again. Previously there was news that the power consumption of the aluminium plants will be reduced by 35 percent based on the average monthly consumption from January to July. Not only this, the power consumption of the alumina plants also be cut by 70 percent on the same condition.
