Standard Chartered Bank buys 1.60 lakh shares of Ess Dee Aluminium

The matching seller was the Canadian bank, The Bank of Nova Scotia Asia Ltd. The transaction was done at the share price of R319.9 per piece amounting to more than R5.12 Cr.
Other significant stakeholders in the company include sub-account Hypnos Fund (5.54%), Orange Mauritius Investments (3.58%) and Emerging India Focus Fund (5.12%).
In a recent transaction with the company, Sequoia Capital exited Ess Dee by selling around 6.5% stake for R135 per share aggregating to R28.25 Cr in September last year. This was supposedly at a loss of about 60% from its earlier buys in the price range of R240-250.
Incorporated in 2004 and promoted by Sudip Dutta, Ess Dee Aluminium is engaged in manufacturing of aluminium foil and poly vinyl chloride (PVC) based products and has 8 manufacturing facilities across India.
It gets 85% of its business from pharma companies and the rest from packaging used by producers of frozen desserts, chocolate and gum. Its clients list includes Glaxo, Pfizer, Cipla, Ranbaxy, Novartis among others.
Standard Chartered had recently cut down its stake in PI Industries by selling over 3.5 lakh shares through exchanges.
Deals in the space include the recent acquisition of 75% stake in Triveni Polymers by German firm Gerresheimer AG.
Prior to that Finnish company Huhtamaki Oyj acquired label manufacturer – Webtech Labels in November last year.
