
According to the International Aluminium Institute, alumina production in South America in September 2021 stood at 874,000 tonnes, reflecting a downfall of 6.72 per cent or 63,000 tonnes month-on-month. In August, alumina output in South America came in at 937,000 tonnes after being decreased by 25.22 per cent from 1.253 million tonnes in July.

On a year-on-year calculation, South America’s alumina production in September 2021 edged 17.63 per cent or 131,000 tonnes higher than 743,000 tonnes.
In the third quarter of 2021, alumina production in South America totalled 2.830 million tonnes, down by 11.31 per cent from 3.191 million tonnes in the second quarter. Compared to the September quarter of 2020, the production of the ore stood 5.48 per cent higher than 2.683 million tonnes.
From January to September 2021, alumina production amounted to 9.177 million tonnes, 4.64 per cent more than 8.770 million tonnes during the same period last year.
Daily average alumina production in South America during September 2021 came in at 372,300 tonnes, down by 1.14 per cent from 376,600 tonnes a month ago.
