Shandong Nanshan Aluminium plant in Longkou to house a new cold rolling mill from Primetals Technologies

Shandong Nanshan Aluminium, a China-based aluminium company specialised in producing and distributing aluminium products, ordered a new cold rolling mill with Primetals Technologies in March 2023. The mill, featuring UCM technology, would be installed at Shandong’s aluminium plant in Longkou, Shandong province, east China. The UCM technology is well-known for high rolling stability and detailed shape controllability.

The mill will help Shandong Nanshan Aluminium expand its rolling output, with an annual capacity of 180,000 tonnes. Thanks to the innovative features of the mill, like shape control actuators like work roll bending, intermediate roll bending, intermediate roll shifting, and a precise spot cooling system, Shandong will be able to execute all cold rolling processes on the mill using the same type of straight crown work rolls. This will help the company reduce production costs for spare work rolls.

As Shandong Nanshan Aluminium is contemplating increasing the production of automotive aluminium products, the new cold rolling mill will play an important role.

Primetals Technologies will supply mechanical and automation scope, engineering, and advisory services for implementing the new cold rolling mill at Shandong’s Longkou plant. The automation solution comprises basic automation (Level 1), advanced process optimisation systems (Level 2), motors, a complete drive system, and electric parts.
