
Rusal released its operating results for the third quarter of 2020 on October 27, 2020, revealing that its bauxite production decreased by 1.6 per cent quarter-on-quarter to amount to 3.829 million tonnes. In Q2, the company’s bauxite output was 3.89 million tonnes, increasing by 8.8 per cent Q-o-Q. The decline of output in Q3 was a result of unfavourable weather conditions in Guinea and Jamaica.

Alumina production by Rusal, on the other hand, slightly increased by 0.4 per cent Q-o-Q in Q3 2020 to come in at 2.018 million tonnes, with Rusal’s Russian operations accounting for 35 per cent of the output. In the previous quarter, Rusal’s alumina production was 2.009 million tonnes.
In total nine months of 2020, Rusal’s bauxite production stood at 11.298 million tonnes, down by 6.01 per cent from 12,021 million tonnes during the same period last year.
Alumina production during January-September came in at 6.040 million tonnes, 4 per cent higher than 5.808 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
Rusal’s bauxite third party sales in Q3 2020 were 21,000 tonnes, down by 72 per cent from 75,000 tonnes in Q2. In total nine months, bauxite third party sales were 96,000 tonnes, 2.5 per cent lower than 98,000 tonnes year-on-year.
Alumina third party sales in Q3 were 451,000 tonnes, up by 19.9 per cent from 376,000 tonnes Q-o-Q. But the total sales in the first nine months were 1.227 million tonnes, decreasing by 1.1 per cent from 1.241 million tonnes.
