In an effort to enhance sustainability, the RONAL GROUP has launched the RONAL-Re (RONAL Aluminium Wheel Recycling) project under the stewardship of Patric Steeg, Sustainability Manager at RONAL GmbH in Forst. Steeg has spearheaded the initiative since February 2024, and it aims to address the substantial carbon footprint associated with aluminium, the most extensively utilised raw material at RONAL.
{alcircleadd}The RONAL-Re project aims to reduce our carbon footprint by emphasising the use of recycled aluminium in production. This initiative is designed to prepare the company for achieving CO2 neutrality by 2050.
The RONAL-Re project recognises the environmental impact of aluminium production and is working to streamline recycling processes for aluminium wheels, thereby reducing CO2 emissions. This strategic move underscores RONAL GROUP's commitment to sustainability and represents a significant stride towards fostering eco-friendly practices in the automotive manufacturing sector.
While discussing the project's status, Patric Steeg said, "We are currently in phase 2. We have set the goal of switching from purchasing 100 per cent primary aluminium to 70 per cent primary and 30 per cent secondary aluminium by 2027/28. We are also currently planning how to recycle our aluminium scrap and no longer have to sell it."
"At the moment, our aim is to obtain customer approval for our plants in Spain and the Czech Republic so that we can start mass production there using secondary material from our aluminium supplier Eccomelt. We are also planning with our primary aluminium supplier, Hydro, so we can also source secondary aluminium there."
