Republic of Ghana has come up a long way as one of the major bauxite exporters to China since July this year. From 43,904 tonnes in July it has surged to reach 1,12,587 tonnes in October 2017, revealed data released by the General Customs Administration of China on November 24. The increase of 156 per cent surely indicates at a rising dominance of the country in the international bauxite market.

Ghana government is committed to making the most of the country’s native bauxite ore resources. In a recent Ghana National Chamber of Commerce event president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said, “To this end, an Integrated Bauxite and Aluminum Development Authority is to be established by law, in this meeting of Parliament, to spearhead the exploitation along the full value chain of our consumable bauxite resources.”
Utilizing native bauxite ore reserves will give a considerable fillip to Ghana's industrial development, he thinks.
Republic of Ghana exported 99,257 tonnes of bauxite to China in October this year, significantly up from 49,183 tonnes in August.
Considering government’s proactive measures to improve its trade relations with bauxite-hungry countries to expedite overall economic growth, Ghana is expected to increase its exports further in the coming quarters.
