RECYCLED ALUMINIUM CONF: European scrap exports to stagnate by 2014

European scrap aluminium export volumes will level off by 2014, increasing the availability of scrap in domestic European markets, delegates at Metal Bulletin’s 19th International Recycled Aluminium conference in Istanbul heard.
“In future, I expect Asian markets to generate more scrap, decreasing the need for long-distance imports,” Roland Scharf-Bergmann, head of recycling at Hydro Aluminium, said. “From 2014 onwards, I expect [European] scrap exports to stagnate at around 1 million tpy,” he added. “That will lead to more availability for the European market, which is needed with [the growth in] projected demand for aluminium.”
