According to the latest report from United States Geological Survey for aluminium, total aluminium recovered from scrap (recovery from purchased, tolled, or imported scrap) in September 2019 stood at 284,000 tonne, slightly less than the amount in August 2019. The volume is 9% less than the amount in September 2018, and 6% less than that in September 2017.

Of this, 159,000 tonnes of aluminium were recovered from new scrap and 125,000 tonnes were recovered from old scrap. For the first nine months of 2019, total aluminium recovery from scrap stood at about 2.56 million tonnes, down 8.5% from 2.8 million tonnes in the same period of 2018. Of this, 1.4 million tonnes of aluminium were recovered from new scrap and 1.14 million tonnes were recovered from old scrap.
Aluminium recovered from scrap or recycled aluminium accounted for 39% of total aluminium supply in the U.S. during the period from January to September 2019.
Inventories of primary aluminium in LME-approved warehouses in the United States decreased to 5,800 tonne at the end of September from 7,250 tonne at the end of August. Inventories of secondary aluminium (North American Secondary Aluminum Alloy Contract) in LME-approved warehouses in the United States decreased to 64,780 tonne at the end of September from 76,640 tonne at the end of August.
