Queensland Resources Council welcomes export deal for Queensland bauxite

The Queensland Resources Council has welcomed a new four-year export deal secured for Queensland bauxite with one of China’s largest integrated aluminium companies.
QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said the Queensland resources sector contributed $55 billion – or 78% – of Queensland’s $70 billion exports over the last 12 months, and deals like the one Metro Mining have secured with Xinfa further strengthens that contribution.
“We are seeing strong double-digit growth in resource exports from Queensland. We have the coal, minerals and LNG that the world needs,” he said.
“Stable policy and continued access to resource will continue to underpin the sector’s contribution not only to Queensland exports, but the wider economy and employment.”
“Importantly the Bauxite Hills Mine, north of Weipa on Cape York, will support up to 200 jobs”.
QRC is the peak representative body for Queensland’s resource sector. The sector provides one in every $6 dollars in the Queensland economy, sustains one in eight Queensland jobs, and supports more than 16,400 businesses across the State, all from 0.1 percent of Queensland’s land mass.
