Orbite shuffles management to broaden its top management team
Glenn R. Kelly, who has led Quebec City’s CO2 Solutions Inc., a Quebec City developer of carbon capture technology, over the past four years, was named on Tuesday as Orbite’s executive vice-president and chief operating officer.
Kelly, who holds civil engineering and MBA degrees, has worked for 25 years in the energy sector and is best known for his leadership of the Rabaska liquefied gas terminal project in Quebec City — aborted mainly because of slumping North American natural gas prices.
“He has extensive experience in the design and construction of industrial plants and in project management,” Orbite CEO Richard Boudreault said in a statement. “His proven record in operating management will be invaluable as we move forward with our alumina project.”
Kelly has been CEO of CO2 Solutions Inc. since 2008 — he left that job late last week. Earlier he founded the natural gas storage firm Intragaz Inc. and worked several years for Chevron Canada.
Orbite also said it has set up an executive committee, led by chairman Lionel Leveillée and also a disclosure committee.
Orbite is producing small tonnages of high-purity alumina for the pharmaceutical industry at its Cap Chat pilot plant and plans to move to commercial production later. This would be followed by smelter-grade alumina production for the aluminum industry.
Orbite’s patented technology does not produce the “red mud” associated with processing bauxite to make alumina, the intermediate material used in smelting primary aluminum metal.
