Octopus Energy Generation, the renewables arm of Octopus Energy Group, is charging ahead in Germany's clean energy transformation with a bold new move — the acquisition of MN Projekt GmbH, a top-tier green energy developer based in Hamburg.
With a powerful 2-gigawatt pipeline in the works, MN Projekt is driving over 70 renewable energy projects across the country. The portfolio spans cutting-edge solar farms and advanced battery storage systems, with the first projects already shovel-ready and many more set to break ground soon. This acquisition marks a major step in accelerating Germany's shift to a greener, more resilient energy future.
"Solar is now the fastest-growing sector in Germany's renewables mix. And with Germany racing towards 80 per cent renewable electricity by 2030, investments like this are essential to meet this goal. By partnering with MN projects GmbH, we're accelerating the shift from fossil fuels to solar energy and battery storage. These solutions will power German homes sustainably for years whilst helping to balance the grid, driving a greener future for the country and beyond," said Zoisa North-Bond, CEO of Octopus Energy Generation.
Once fully operational, these projects will generate enough solar energy to power 500,000 German homes — roughly equivalent to lighting up every household in Frankfurt. On top of that, they'll provide battery storage capacity to support an additional 150,000 homes. MN Projekt is helping bring clean energy to traditionally coal-reliant regions like Saxony and Lower Saxony, playing a vital role in Germany's bold mission to reach 80 per cent renewable electricity by 2030.
The acquisition was made through the Octopus Energy Development Partnership (OEDP), a fund dedicated to accelerating the shift from polluting fossil fuels to clean energy across Europe. This marks Octopus' ninth investment in Germany in under three years, propelling the company closer to its ambitious goal of investing €1 billion in the country by 2027.
It follows last year's backing of Lintas Green Energy, a developer aiming to build 1 GW of wind and solar capacity across Germany by 2030. Octopus also already manages 300 MW of solar, onshore, and offshore wind projects nationwide, solidifying its role as a key player in Germany's green energy revolution.
Alongside growing its renewable energy portfolio, Octopus Energy Group is rapidly scaling its supply business in Germany — now serving over 800,000 customers, double the number from just a year ago. The company is also rolling out its innovative 'Fan Club' model, which cuts energy bills for communities living near wind farms. With two sites already up and running and more on the way, the Fan Club is helping bring affordable, locally generated green power to even more homes across Germany.
