

India’s state-owned energy giant NTPC Ltd has taken a further step toward expanding its renewable portfolio, with new capacity now entering commercial service in Gujarat. Through its step-down subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, the company has begun supplying 165 MW of power from the Khavda-II Solar PV project, which has a planned total capacity of 1,200 MW.

This latest development represents the operationalisation of the fourth phase of the project, and the commercial operations are going to start from March 19, 2026. This tactical approach shows the Khavda-II project’s size and intricacy, which is an important solar initiative that also supports India’s clean energy movement.

With this new capacity, the NTPC Group's total installed capacity now stands at 88,709 MW. Simultaneously, its operational, revenue-generating capacity has reached 87,629 MW. The company’s consistent development in bringing new assets into the service while balancing the traditional and renewable energy sources is shown in these numbers.
This expansion boosts NTPC's generation capabilities and highlights its dedication to sustainability. The company's ongoing integration of solar energy into its operations keeps it in step with national energy goals and the broader shift toward low-carbon electricity generation.
