New tubing course sharpens technical knowledge in China

Increased knowledge is driving the use of aluminium solutions, and Sapa is one of the educators. A new course on aluminium tubing is aimed at improving the company’s ability to provide tailored technical support for customers of heat transfer solutions.

In 2014, Sapa provided more than 37,000 hours of technical training to external stakeholders worldwide. The company is working to increase the amount this year.

The technical sessions cover all the business areas in Sapa. In addition to seminars related to general extrusions, which accounted for the largest single share of hours provided last year, Sapa hosted and educated another 1,900 external stakeholders in events related to its building systems, automotive tubing and industrial tubing businesses.

Sapa’s Precision Tubing business area has prioritized training seminars on high-performance tube alloys and coatings for industrial heat exchange applications in locations around the world.

The business area’s research and application development group – the Precision Tubing Technology Center – has just initiated a series of Tubing Application Courses for employees across the world. The idea is to continuously increase the technical knowledge within its own organization, such that staff is better equipped to educate customers and to continue to be able to identify and develop correct, tailored solutions for each.

The most recent two-day course was arranged at Sapa’s tubing plant in Suzhou, China. Participants were divided into two groups, with 20 employees in each. Course lecturers covered subjects like refrigeration, heat transfer, brazing, corrosion, and coating theory and practice.

Sapa has approximately 1,000 engineers – most with material science, physics, chemistry, or mechanical engineering backgrounds – who work in research and application development worldwide.
