Nanshan plant construction on track
He said the Nanshan Aluminum Extrusion plant in Lafayette will employ around 150 employees by summer of next year. 100 of those positions are still open, and the company is looking to fill those spots with local labor.
"We're looking for a variety of candidates at the moment. And we have a website set up to accept candidate applications. We're also working with the local community educational system," said Jamie Beardsley, project director for the Lafayette facility.
The Nanshan group, based in China, announced in February of this year that it would be expanding its plant operations to Lafayette because of the owners' ties to Purdue University. The company plans to start operations small, but have already built in the room needed to expand manufacturing, which could mean even more jobs in the future.
"We've also built some future expansion potential into the facility. It's some 600,000 square foot under roof, and a little under 150 of that is future expansion. The total project plan incorporates four extrusion lines, but we're going to be starting with two," said Beardsley.
Staying green was high on the list for the Nanshan corporation in building the newest plant. Through new technology the plant will be on the cutting edge of corporate green technology.
"We expect to be the cleanest, or the lowest emission level, secondary aluminum processor of this size in this country," said Beardsley.
