One of the leading suppliers of architectural building products, Modinex, has decided to switch to Capral's LocAl Green, a lower-carbon aluminium solution. In a strategic alliance with Capral, Australia's foremost aluminium supplier, Modinex is actively committed to mitigating the carbon footprint associated with its product range.
By proactively selecting the LocAl Green lower-carbon aluminium option, the company aims to exemplify a conscientious approach to environmental impact, setting a precedent for sustainability within its industry. Opting for Capral's LocAl Green lower-carbon aluminium empowers Modinex with access to primary aluminium manufactured using alternative energy sources. This choice significantly reduces the embodied carbon, showcasing a noteworthy deviation from the global averages for primary aluminium production.
"Capral's LocAl Green is now our standard material for our Alu Selekta Castellation and Alu Selekta Channel ranges, which also carry Code Mark Certification, are Cyclone Rated and Salt Walter Certified. LocAl is also standard on our Alu Batten and Austratus Fin & Flat products. All of our aluminium products are available in Interpon or Dulux powdercoating finishes or our signature Double Baked powdercoat timber grain that provides a 25-year structural warranty and 15-year warranty against fading, highly regarded within the industry," said Dean Crowther, Head of Marketing and Architectural Specification at Modinex.
Modinex's decision to incorporate LocAl Green lower-carbon aluminium from Capral exemplifies its unwavering commitment to sustainability and its position as a leader in environmentally responsible manufacturing. By deliberately sourcing lower-carbon aluminium carrying ASI Certification, Modinex is actively advancing towards a reduction in the carbon footprint of their final aluminium products. This strategic move aligns with their dedication to maintaining the exceptional quality standards that architects, designers, and builders have consistently associated with Modinex's market-leading brands.
"One of the reasons we love working with aluminium is that it is 100% recyclable; in fact, most of the aluminium ever produced is still in use. Aluminium is light and resilient and can be easily fabricated and finished. It is durable, low maintenance, and perfect for use in the built environment. The only drawback is that it is highly energy-intensive to produce. LocAl allows us to capture all the wonderful benefits aluminium brings to our products whilst reducing the emissions associated with the material upfront," added Dean Crowther.
LocAl Green boasts an impressive carbon footprint of 8kg CO2e/Kg Al, a substantial improvement compared to the current global average of 13.9kg CO2e/Kg Al. This lower carbon alternative underscores Modinex's commitment to environmentally responsible practices and sets a positive benchmark for sustainable sourcing in the industry.
Modinex's products grace commercial and residential spaces across Australia, embodying market-leading brands known for their unwavering commitment to quality, reliability, and innovation. At the core of this commitment is Modinex's adoption of LocAl Green lower-carbon aluminium, locally extruded in Australia by Capral. This domestic extrusion process ensures high-quality products and significantly reduces transportation-related emissions, bolsters the local economy, and aligns with the increasingly crucial Aluminium Stewardship (ASI) certification.
In 2023, Capral Aluminium achieved certification against the ASI Performance Standard V3 and Chain of Custody (CoC) V2. This certification covers the extrusion, warehousing, and distribution of aluminium products and services across all 26 of Capral's facilities, including mills, distribution centres, and trade centres strategically positioned throughout every state and territory in Australia. This certification underscores Capral's commitment to sustainability and responsible practices across its operational network.
