In pursuit of a more sustainable operational approach, Hydro Alunorte, has recently added ten electric vehicles to its fleet, marking a significant step in its decarbonisation strategy. Setting its sights on an ambitious target, Hydro Alunorte aspires to emerge as a beacon of eco-friendliness, striving to attain the coveted title of one of the world's facilities boasting the lowest emissions rate by 2025.

"This exchange corresponds to a reduction of 119,658 tons of CO₂ per year, which represents 1,660 trees planted in five years, helping to reduce Alunorte's carbon footprint", stated Klebio Coelho, Planning and Contract Management manager at the refinery.
This new fleet of electric cars will supplant the existing ten fossil fuel-powered vehicles at the refinery, solidifying Hydro Alunorte's status as a standout player in global energy efficiency and ranking among the top 25 per cent in emission reduction efficiency. This move underscores the company's proactive stance towards environmental responsibility and positions it as a leader in pursuing greener and cleaner industrial practices.
Boasting an impressive range of 298 km, the vehicles are equipped with the convenience of recharging at dedicated stations strategically positioned within Hydro Alunorte's premises. Beyond the evident comfort enhancements, these electric vehicles introduce a novel driving experience with reduced noise, instant torque, and exceptional performance development. Notably, these eco-friendly vehicles exhibit zero energy consumption when idling in traffic, eschew the need for a gearbox, and feature advanced energy regeneration capabilities.
Already operational, these cutting-edge cars predominantly serve transportation needs within the refinery, facilitating seamless travel to the nearby port of Vila do Conde and the residential hub of Vila dos Cabanos, where the refinery's workforce resides. This marks a paradigm shift in the transportation landscape within Hydro Alunorte, emphasising not only efficiency gains but also a transformative journey towards a more sustainable and technologically advanced future.
