People living in Malvern are now able to recycle a couple of additional everyday items from their own homes, following an update from Malvern Hills District Council.
{alcircleadd}From now on, aluminium foil can be placed in green recycling bins. This includes common items such as kitchen foil and foil food trays. Plastic tubes have also been added to the list, meaning things like toothpaste tubes no longer need to be thrown away with general waste. Both of these are items most households use regularly, so the change is expected to make a noticeable difference.

These additions sit alongside the materials that residents have already been recycling for some time. Green bins continue to take glass bottles and jars, paper and cardboard, drink cartons, metal food and drinks cans, aerosols, and a range of plastic packaging, including bottles, pots, tubs and trays. The council hopes that by widening the list further, more waste can be diverted away from landfill.
Councillor Jeremy Owenson said the council is pleased to expand the scheme, noting that accepting more items at home will make recycling simpler and reduce confusion.

He highlighted that small items like foil and plastic tubes are widely used and, when processed properly, can be turned into new products, including household goods and vehicle parts, bringing wider environmental benefits over time.
The council believes simpler systems encourage better participation, as people are more likely to recycle when everything can go in one bin. Guidance on preparing items is available on the council’s website to help avoid contamination.
By adding more everyday materials to kerbside collection, the aim is to make recycling an easier part of daily life in Malvern.
