On May 13, the London Metal Exchange (LME) aluminium price, after following a downward price movement for some time, significantly rose across all its contracts, crossing a four-year high as well. Moreover, the LME inventory also saw a shift, where opening stock and live warrants declined, but the cancelled warrants rose greatly.
{alcircleadd}Both the LME cash bid and cash offer rose by USD 90 per tonne or 2.5 per cent, where the bid shifted from USD 3,639 per tonne to USD 3,729 per tonne and the offer from USD 3,639.5 per tonne to USD 3,729.5 per tonne.

Similarly, the LME forward contracts also rose, where the LME 3-month bid changed to USD 3,649 per tonne from USD 3,565.5 per tonne, owing to a difference of USD 83.5 per tonne or 2.3 per cent. The offer changed to USD 3,650 per tonne from USD 3,566 per tonne, owing to a difference of USD 84 per tonne or 2.4 per cent.
On the same day, the LME longer-dated contracts also expanded by USD 35 per tonne or 1 per cent, where the December 27 bid moved to USD 3,180 per tonne from USD 3,145 per tonne and the offer to USD 3,185 per tonne from USD 3,150 per tonne.

The 3-month Asian Reference Price, on May 13, also inched up by USD 90.5 per tonne or 2.6 per cent, revising to USD 3,652.5 per tonne from USD 3,562 per tonne.
A significant change is seen in the LME inventory on May 13 as well, where the opening stock declined by 2,350 tonnes or 1 per cent, changing from 353,350 tonnes to 351,000 tonnes. The LME live warrant also declined by 30 thousand tonnes or 9 per cent and is currently at 301,725 tonnes from 331,725 tonnes from the previous closing.

However, the opposite trend is witnessed in the LME cancelled warrant, which rose by 27,750 tonnes or 144 per cent, rising from 19,275 tonnes to 47,025 tonnes.
On this day, the alumina platts price also decreased slightly by USD 0.65 per tonne or 0.2 per cent, from USD 307.15 per tonne to USD 306.5 per tonne.
