
LME aluminium slipped as positions rose during Thursday's night trading. The contract declined marginally by 0.25 per cent from Wednesday's closing of US$1,934 per tonne to close at US$1,929 per tonne on Thursday, March 2. As Shanghai Meals Market (SMM) finds it, LME aluminium will test support at the 5 and 10-day moving averages and trade at US$1,890-1,920 per tonne on Friday, March 3.
As on March 2, LME official cash buyer price of aluminium stands at US$1,927 per tonne, cash seller & settlement price is US$1,929 per tonne, 3M buyer price is US$1,935 per tonne, 3M seller price is US$1,936 per tonne, Dec1 buyer price is US$1,970 per tonne, and Dec1 seller price is US$1,975 per tonne. The current LME official Opening Stock of aluminium is estimated at 2180775 tonnes, total Live Warrants is 1302975 tonnes, and Cancelled Warrant is 877800 tonnes.

As on March 1, LME Aluminium US Premium stands at US$215, LME Aluminium West-Europe Premium remains unchanged at US$95, LME Aluminium East-Asia Premium is US$95 and LME Aluminium South-East Asia Premium is US$15.
In China, the benchmark price of aluminium on Shanghai Metal Exchange (SME) has dropped in tandem with the LME aluminium price. The price is down by 1.14 per cent from its previous day's price of US$2,009 per tonne on Thursday to stand at US$1,986 per tonne on Friday, March 3.

Aluminium contracts traded on Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) dropped during Thursday's trading hours impacted on by the LME aluminium prices. SHFE 1704 aluminum after opening at RMB 14,225 per tonne declined to RMB 14,080 per tonne. SMM predicts after the sharp decline the contract will rally and test the 5, 10 and 20-day moving averages on Friday and will hover in the range of RMB 13,850-14,050 per tonne.

Spot aluminium in China's domestic market is expected to trade at discounts of RMB 220-180 per tonne on Friday.
SMM sends out a message of caution for the traders. China’s NPC&CPPCC sessions will be opening on Friday. So, traders should be watching out for the signals for economic work in 2017.
