India’s aluminium imports including scrap from US soars 174% in 2018’s first eleven months

India imported a total of 199,000 tonnes of aluminium (crude metal and alloys, aluminium semi-finished products and scrap) from the US in the first eleven months of 2018, a 173.73% growth or 126300 tonnes from 72,700 in the first eleven months of 2017, as updated by US Census Bureau.

Total aluminium imports by India came in at 30,200 tonnes in November 2018, marking a jump of 300.53% or 22660 tonnes from 7,540 tonnes in November 2017. Crude metal and alloys, aluminium semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) and scrap imports in November increased by 17% from October total of 25,800 tonnes.

Semi-finished products imports totalled 4,020 tonnes during nine-month period. This indicates a jump 240.68% or 2840 tonnes year-on-year. Exports in November stood at 170 tonnes. This was up 33.86% year-on-year, but down 45.69% month-on-month.

Imports of aluminium scrap stood at 194,000 tonnes during January- November 2018, up 171.71% from 71,400 tonnes during January- November 2017.The country imported 30,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US in November, up 305.95% year on year. On month on month comparison, total imports volume increased 17.65% from the October volume of 25,500 tonnes.
