On October 29 to November 1, Belem, the capital of the Para state of Brazil held the 36th International Conference and Exhibition of ICSOBA. The selection of Belem for the 36th International Conference and Exhibition followed ICSOBA’s practice of rotating the venue of International Meetings to countries that play an important role in the global aluminium industry.

This year, the conference obtained support from Hydro, the host sponsor and attracted 225 delegates from 26 countries. From Brazil alone, 95 graced the conference with their presence. Very high-quality papers were selected for presentations (99) and published in volume 47 of TRAVAUX conference proceedings. During the Conference, an Exhibition of latest technologies, equipment and other devices for the bauxite, alumina and aluminium industry also took place with 12 participants.
The last day of the conference saw three field trips to Paragominas bauxite mine, Alunorte alumina refinery, and Albras smelter. The next conference is planned for Krasnoyarsk, Russia in mid-September 2019 in collaboration with Rusal and Non-Ferrous Metals of Siberia.
ICSOBA stands for The International Committee for Study of Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium. It is an independent, non-profit association that unites industry professionals representing major bauxite, alumina, and aluminium producing companies, technology suppliers, researchers and consultants from around the world. It was formed in the year 1963 and since then has been conducting events in different parts of the world, with the primary objective to promote the exchange of ideas and results from different fields of research related to bauxite exploration and mining, and alumina and aluminium production.
