To keep up with the growing demand for sustainable products in North America, Granges will invest US$ 52 million to expand its recycling and casting operations in Huntingdon, Tennessee. This investment is crucial for the launch of near-zero carbon aluminium solutions in 2024; also the new cluster will be powered by renewable energy as a part of the Tennessee Valley Authority Green Invest project (TVA).

Gränges is an aluminium technology company that encourages the development of lighter, smarter and more sustainable aluminium products and solutions. It also serves the consumers with advanced materials facilitating the manufacturing process and the performance of the final products. For more than 25 years, Gränges’ innovative engineering has upheld the face of Sweden by holding main positions in the rolled products and thermal management industries alongside speciality packaging and selected niche applications.
Having production facilities around three continents, Asia, Europe and America, Gränges annually produces 570 thousand tonnes with 2,600 employees and its share is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm.
This investment will gradually result in a lesser carbon footprint left by the company due to the use of renewable electricity and increased recycling. Moreover, this will ultimately reduce cost and contribute positively to Gränges’ operational profit, employing more individuals in the locality.
President and CEO, Gränges Group, Jörgen Rosengren emphasised, “Sustainability and recycling are two critical parts of our business model and strong drivers of our long-term competitiveness and value creation. We have a very high ambition level in these areas. With this investment, we will meet our customers’ expectations on decarbonizing our business and leading the way in offering solutions that are differentiated from a sustainability perspective”.
The latest technology will be used in the new Recycling and Casting Centre melting furnaces combined with all-electric annealing ovens to produce near-zero carbon aluminium solutions which come with a carbon footprint of a maximum of 1 tonne CO2 per tonne aluminium. Carroll County Electric along with the TVA Green Invest program partnered to oversee the downstream production processes powered by renewable energy.

Patrick Lawlor, President of Gränges America exclaimed, “Gränges’ ambitious sustainability strategy combined with our customers’ platforms drive the size and speed of our investments. This investment builds on Gränges Americas’ foil strategy and underscores our strategic focus and commitment to developing sustainable products and solutions”.
This entire process of investment and expansion would take two years therefore America’s near-zero carbon product dream will be achievable from mid-2024 with a calculated capacity of 25 thousand tonnes. After the completion of the investment, Gränges Americas Inc. will record, 260 thousand tonnes of production of finished items.
