France’s bauxite import is found growing quarter-on-quarter this year for feeding its domestic alumina refineries. Alteo is one of the leading producers of non-metallurgical alumina in France. The company has three alumina refineries in France: the alumina refinery in Gardanne, a white fused alumina facility in La Bâthie and a brown fused alumina plant in Beyrède.
Being one of the world leaders in specialty alumina production, Alteo is known for offering a wide range of products. It is formed after divestment of the specialty alumina group by Rio Tinto, with the production capacity of 635kT per year.
{alcircleadd}According to the global export-import data, France in the first quarter of 2018 imported 425,903 tonnes while that in Q1 2017, the country had secured 385,537 tonnes. This shows that France’s bauxite import increased quarter-on-quarter by 10.47 per cent.

Consequently, the import cost also increased. In Q1 2017, France had spent US$ 16.83 million, which increased by 5 per cent to US$ 17.79 million in the same period of the successive year.

The global export-import date also shows that the estimated volume of bauxite import by France is likely to stand higher in the entire year of 2018 against the previous year. 1.69 million tonnes is estimated to be the total amount of bauxite that France would import in the whole year of 2018 while in 2017, the estimated amount of bauxite imported by France was at 1.48 million tonnes. This means France’s bauxite import is likely to record a growth by 14 per cent in 2018.
