First million tonnes Bauxite ore gets shipped: Guinea Alumina Corporation

Guinea Alumina Corporation SA (GAC) declared on 15^th Jan’20 that it has shipped more than one million tonnes of bauxite ore since exports began in August. The company pursues to ramp up to outreach its insignificant capacity of 12 million tonnes per year.

Daniel Cornel Pop, GAC's interim CEO, said, “Our ramp-up is progressing well and our mining, rail and port facilities are operating as planned. Besides, the quality of bauxite that we produce for our customers is consistent with our objectives. These results are a source of great pride because we certainly have the best equipment, the best technologies and the best processes, but above all because we have the best employees who have succeeded in developing a positive environment where the work of the team and personal development have become fundamental values ​​of our organization ”.

He also added: "Building on our solid foundation, GAC is looking to the future more than ever, with a mining plan that will ensure reliable operations for many years to come, good jobs for current generations and while stimulating the economy and generating enthusiasm throughout the Boké region. This favourable prospect will become a reality thanks to our unwavering determination, the commitment of our employees and the support of our business partners and the communities that welcome us. ”

Emirates Global Aluminium, GAC’s parent company has invested approximately $1.4billion to mature the GAC project. This is one of the immense investments in the Republic of Guinea in the past 40 years.

GAC, and EGA's Al Taweelah alumina refinery in Abu Dhabi which kicked off production in April, are developing EGA's activities upstream in the aluminium value chain. These projects create new revenue streams for EGA and help secure the supply of raw materials necessary for EGA at competitive prices.
