
According to the Preliminary estimates from Aluminum Association, aluminium demand in the United States and Canada that includes shipments by domestic producers plus imports were an estimated 13,329 million pounds during H1 2016, an increase of 1.9 per cent over the same period last year. Demand for semi-fabricated or mill products dropped slightly YTD to 9,311 million pounds. Apparent consumption (demand minus exports) in domestic markets totalled an estimated 11,745 million pounds during H1 2016, up seven-tenths of one per cent. U.S. and Canada exported (excluding cross-border trade) 1,584 million pounds of aluminium ingot and mill products during the first six months of 2016 that records a 12 per cent increase over the same period last year. Compared to export, imports were up 20 cent to 3,711 million pounds YTD.
For the month of June, aluminium semi-fabricated (mill) product demands in the U.S. and Canada totalled an estimated 1,619 million pounds, up 1.3 per cent over the June 2015. Demand for aluminium sheet and plate increased 1.7 per cent to 892 million pounds. Extruded products were up 1.6 per cent YOY to 483 million pounds. Apparent consumption in domestic U.S. and Canada markets increased 3.9 per cent YOY to 2,020 million pounds.
Producer inventories were 2,915 million pounds in June showing slightly upward trends. What is to be noted here is that in YOY comparison to 2015, producer inventories were down 2.5 per cent.
