International Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) has reportedly verified Vedanta Aluminium’s range of products, confirming that India’s largest aluminium producer is committed to achieving the highest industrial standards in sustainable production.
Vedanta’s primary aluminium products scored well in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) on parameters like energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste generation. This achievement testifies the company’s advanced manufacturing practices ensuring sustainability across the value chain.
The primary products verified by EPD included billets, primary foundry alloy (PFA), wire rods, and all categories of aluminium ingots. All these products have high-end applications in vital industrial sectors like aerospace, infrastructure, automotive, electrical, and packaging. In addition, they are used in sunrise sectors such as hi-tech manufacturing, renewable energy, battery technologies, electric vehicles, and more.
Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardised and globally recognised certification that acclaims environmental performance of products based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). It provides transparent and scientifically verified information about products’ entire life cycle, right from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal.
On receiving this certification, Sunil Gupta, COO of Vedanta Aluminium, said: “As the world embraces sustainable practices for a low carbon future, the aluminium industry stands at the forefront of remarkable growth and innovation. With its versatile nature, aluminium holds significant potential in driving the energy transition, positioning Vedanta Aluminium as a critical facilitator. Our commitment to environmental stewardship is exemplified through the Environmental Product Declaration, showcasing our green practices and innovations across the entire aluminium value chain. We remain dedicated to upholding the highest industry standards and providing environmentally sustainable products to our customers."
Vedanta is a worldwide-recognised producer of sustainable aluminium. In 2022, the company ranked 2nd in the global Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2022 for the aluminium industry, reflecting its sustainable development practices.
