Germany and France share one of Europe’s busiest downstream aluminium corridors, and the metal flows in both directions. In the first seven months of 2026, aluminium flat rolled products (FRP), which cover aluminium plates, sheets and strips (HS code: 7606), as well as aluminium foil (HS code: 7607), crossed the border each way, amounting to a total of around USD 692 million. However, the bilateral trade flow is tilted towards Germany, which remains France’s largest FRP supplier. Nonetheless, the inter-dependence remains as the countries do exchange the same products but engage in cross-border trade of specialised high-value products and alloys, feeding the demand on either side. The trade figures for January–July 2026, as compiled from the International Trade Administration, highlight...

Makers of aluminium products in Italy are struggling to obtain metal stored in warehouses owned by banks and commodity traders, and are paying high premiums despite the market being in chronic oversupply, the country's non-ferrous metals body Assomet said. The oversupply and simultaneous lack of availability is under scrutiny as it has worsened since banks and trade houses which speculate on price bought warehouses, giving them insight into one of the key drivers of price - metal stocks. "We face a mountain of metal, enormous excessive global stocks but availability of the physical metal is below what it appears to be," Mario Bertoli, chairman of Italy's non-ferrous metals body Assomet, told Reuters at an aluminium manufacturers trade fair in northern Italy. "Many of our association...

Mr De Cani said that demand is seen stable at 1.046 million tonnes but the figure takes into account that producers will rebuild their stocks after a drop in production last year while end user demand will be weak. Wang Huajun, Deputy Secretary-General of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, said in a telephone interview that there are indications that aluminum demand will improve in late 2Q and early 3Q. Sources report that commercial banks began to offer loans for railway construction projects since the beginning of 2Q, thus easing the tightness of railway investment funds. Industry insiders said the investment in railways may slightly beyond the plan in 2012. According to SMM statistics, aluminum consumption by the transportation sector accounts for about 25%, meaning domestic aluminum consumption may improve driven by railway investments. Wang said that Chinese aluminum consumption is expected to improve in late 2Q and early 3Q, as the railway investment funds are gradually in place and...

Sadly missing their big guns at the plate, the Phils are at least entertaining fans this season with some power in the beer stands. For the first time, Citizens Bank Park is selling 24-ounce aluminum “Tall Boy” cans of Bud, Miller Lite, Yuengling and other brands for 11 bucks a pop. And “pop” is the operative word under the stadium’s so-called “crack and go” policy. The cans are popped open before they’re handed to fans, to lessen the chances of someone launching a sealed, 1?1/2-pound can onto the field. While the ballpark has previously sold (uncapped) aluminum and plastic bottles, this is the first season it’s vended beer in cans, according to Rich McFate, warehouse director for Aramark, the Phillies concessionaire. Besides the Tall Boys (named after the original 24-ounce cans...
