Aluminium to replace copper in wire
He was addressing a seminar to introduce high efficiency and cost effective aluminium wire here on Friday. He underlined the importance of profitable policies for any commercial and business entity and said that the price difference between copper and aluminium wire was visible. He said that at some places, the use of aluminium had already been started as they were forced to abandon the use of costly copper wire in open places due to increase in theft incidents. He said that the price difference had triggered the incidents of cable theft and the Fesco suffered a loss of Rs30 million per annum only due to the theft of copper wire and transformers. He said that aluminium wires were three times cheaper as compared to the copper wire. He said that the increase in density of aluminium cable could minimise the line losses. He also stressed the need to locally produce bimetallic material for efficient and durable jointing of aluminium and copper wire.
