Downstream aluminium weekly: Aluminium foil deliveries record a 0.4% YTD growth amid a dip in Q3; General Motors announces US$45 million investment for its Bedford aluminium die-casting unit

The downstream portion of the global aluminium industry, which transforms aluminium into manufacturing feedstock, is its most important component. This week, the downstream sector of the aluminium industry witnessed limited but prominent events. According to the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA), supplies of aluminium foil decreased slightly year over year in the third quarter of 2022 to 237,800 tonnes but increased year over year (YTD) by 0.4 per cent. A US$45 million investment plan has been announced by General Motors for its Bedford aluminium die-casting factory in Indiana. According to a press release issued by the company, the investment will only be used to increase GM's production capacity of aluminium unit castings that meet EV specifications to meet the growing demand for pickups that meet the same standards as the GMC Sierra EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV. Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) acquired Clean Energy Certificates for 1.1 million megawatt hours of power supplied by Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) to assist the manufacture of CelestiAL solar aluminium.

General Motors declared a US$45 million investment plan for its Bedford aluminium die-casting foundry in Indiana.
