Decline in US aluminium scrap exports to South Korea during Sep’22 leads to a quarterly fall by 18%

According to the US Census Bureau data, the United States aluminium scrap exports to the Republic of Korea or South Korea in September 2022 stood at 20,800 tonnes, registering a decline of 6.3 per cent month-on-month. However, in August, the exports increased sequentially by 14.43 per cent from 19,400 tonnes to 22,200 tonnes.

That brought the United States total exports to South Korea in the September quarter to 62,400 tonnes, down by 18 per cent from 76,100 tonnes in the previous quarter.

On a year-on-year calculation, the United States aluminium scrap exports to South Korea during September 2022 recorded a plunge of 16.8 per cent from 25,000 tonnes.

In the first nine months of the year, the United States scrap exports to South Korea amounted to 218,000 tonnes, up by 12.95 per cent from 193,000 tonnes during the same period last year.

The United States total aluminium scrap exports to South Korea in September 2022 came in at 170,000 tonnes after descending by 4.50 per cent from 178,000 tonnes in August 2022. On a year-on-year basis, the exports in September 2022 stood slightly lower by 1,000 tonnes than 171,000 tonnes.

Future of the Global Aluminium Castings Industry

In nine months, the export volume was reported at 1.51 million tonnes, restrained compared to last year's period.
