A leading Chinese aluminium manufacturing group is considering a USD 2 billion investment in Egypt that could create more than 3,000 jobs and support the development of a clean-energy-based industrial complex in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
{alcircleadd}The proposed project was discussed by Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa and a senior delegation from the Chinese aluminium group, as Egypt seeks to attract investment that can strengthen its industrial and manufacturing base.
The planned complex is expected to rely on clean energy sources, aligning with the growing focus on more sustainable manufacturing. Egyptian authorities also highlighted the project's potential to bring modern technologies and expertise into the country.

3,000 jobs and cleaner industrial growth
The proposed investment could create more than 3,000 jobs, adding to Egypt's efforts to expand industrial activity and attract foreign investment.
During the meeting, Eissa highlighted the importance of the project in transferring expertise and modern technologies to Egypt, particularly as industries worldwide move towards more sustainable and green manufacturing.
The focus on clean energy could also support Egypt's ambitions to develop industrial projects that combine manufacturing growth with lower-carbon production.
However, the project remains at the planning and discussion stage, with the Chinese group expressing interest in expanding its operations in Egypt. The source does not indicate that construction has begun or that the full USD 2 billion investment has been formally committed.
USD 2 billion complex planned for Suez Canal Economic Zone
The proposed investment would involve establishing an integrated industrial complex in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, a strategically important location for manufacturers seeking access to regional and international markets.
The Chinese delegation highlighted Egypt's geographic position linking global markets, along with the country's infrastructure development in recent years.
The location could allow the proposed complex to serve both the Egyptian market and overseas customers. According to the delegation, the project would help meet local market demand while increasing exports to international markets.
This could strengthen Egypt's role as a regional manufacturing and export hub while giving the Chinese group a broader base for its operations.

Egypt seeks aluminium investment and technology transfer
For Egypt, the proposed project represents more than an investment in manufacturing capacity. The government also sees foreign investment as a way to bring technology, expertise and new industrial capabilities into the country.
Eissa said attracting and supporting foreign investment remains a government priority for advancing comprehensive and sustainable economic development. He also stressed the government's efforts to remove obstacles facing investors and provide incentives and facilities to improve Egypt's investment environment.
The proposed aluminium complex therefore fits into Egypt's broader push to attract international manufacturers, expand industrial production and strengthen its position in global supply chains.
The Chinese delegation, meanwhile, pointed to Egypt's strategic location and infrastructure as key factors behind its interest in expanding operations in the country.
If the plans progress, the proposed USD 2 billion complex, more than 3,000 potential jobs and focus on clean energy could give Egypt another boost in its efforts to build a more competitive and export-oriented industrial base.
