Above a month after identifying a cluster of high-grade, low-containment bauxite within the existing resource at Minim Martap Project in November, Canyon Resources Limited has now reportedly started initial aircore drilling and exploration campaign at the site. Canyon’s own aircore drill rig and a team of experienced personnel are at the used for conducting the first phase of drilling in the northwest quadrant of the Minim Martap licence area.

The program will target the previously drilled Beatrice, Agnes, and Raymonde plateaux as well as adjacent plateaux within the prospective northeast-southwest-oriented high-grade bauxite plateau corridor.
Per the report, Canyon’s chairman David Netherway, managing director Phillip Gallagher, and advisor Tolga Kumova recently visited the site to review the exploration strategy.
The drilling will target untested high-grade bauxite plateau, which the company had identified in the previous reconnaissance work.
The previous work had highlighted the possibility to substantially increase the size of Minim Martap’s resource beyond its JORC estimate of 550 million tonnes at 45.5 per cent aluminium oxide and 2.06 per cent silica.
Canyon is now involved in preparing one-metre composite samples for submission to ALS Laboratories in Ireland for detailed geochemical analysis. The next phase of drilling is expected to start in early 2019, making the use of results from a recently completed high resolution airborne light imaging, detection and ranging (LIDAR) survey.
