The world alumina production in December 2021 stood at 11.629 million tonnes, which reflected a month-on-month growth of 3.86 per cent, found the International Aluminium Institute. In November, the output came in at 11.197 million tonnes, down by 1.37 per cent from 11.353 million tonnes in October. On a year-on-year calculation, the world alumina production in December 2021 stood 0.56 per cent higher than 11.694 million tonnes. Primary aluminium production in North America declines 5% YoY, but output in South America grows 13% in 4Q2021
In North America, primary aluminium production in December 2021 stood at 322,000 tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month increase of 14,000 tonnes or 4.55 per cent, found the International Aluminium Institute. In November, aluminium output in North America came in at 308,000 tonnes, down by 10,000 tonnes or 3.14 per cent from 318,000 tonnes in October. In December 2021, primary aluminium production in Africa stood at 139,000 tonnes, flaunting an increase of 8,000 tonnes or 6.11 per cent month-on-month. In November, Africa’s primary aluminium output came in at 131,000 tonnes, down by 6,000 tonnes from 137,000 tonnes in October 2021. According to a recent report, Hydro Energi AS, part of the Electric Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Industry, has entered into a new long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Hafslund Eco Vannkraft AS for a supply of 1300 GWh during 2023-29. The PPA will be part of Hydro Energy’s total power portfolio, consisting of captive power production of 9.4 TWh per year and a long-term contract portfolio of around 10 TWh.
