August aluminium billet premiums in Southeast Asia remained steady overall, Vietnam edged slightly lower

According to SMM's weekly premium assessment as of August 28, 2026, 6063 aluminium billet premiums in Southeast Asia remained stable overall in August. Premiums for homogenized aluminium billet in Cambodia were maintained at USD 275-325 per tonne, with a midpoint of USD 300per tonne; premiums for homogenised aluminium billet in Malaysia were maintained at USD 250-275 per tonne, with a midpoint of USD 262.5 per tonne.

Premiums for homogenised aluminium billet in Thailand remained stable throughout August at USD 210-250 per tonne, with a midpoint of USD 230 per tonne; premiums for non-homogenized aluminium billet in Thailand were maintained at USD 170-210 per tonne, with a midpoint of USD 190 per tonne.

Vietnam was the only market in August to see a notable adjustment. Starting from the August 21 assessment, premiums for Vietnamese non-homogenised 6063 aluminium billet were revised down from USD 190-220 per tonne, with a midpoint of USD 205 per tonne, to USD 175-220 per tonne, with a midpoint of USD 197.5 per tonne. CIF premiums for non-homogenized 6063 aluminium billet exported from China to Thailand were maintained at -USD 100 per tonne to +USD 100 per tonne, with a midpoint of USD 0 per tonne, indicating that Chinese supply continued to exert competitive pressure on local aluminium billet in Southeast Asia in terms of landed prices.

Overall, the August premium structure reflected a defensive market: premiums in major regions were largely stable but lacked upward momentum, the low end of Vietnamese premiums was revised down, and sustained competition from Chinese export supply indicated weak buying momentum, while sellers still faced pressure to remain flexible in offering price concessions.
