According to a recent report, Audi has unveiled details of its Münchsmünster production site that produces key components such as chassis modules for Audi and other VW Group brand models.

The Münchsmünster production site close to Ingolstadt extends over an area of 54 hectares and makes form-hardened sheet steel elements and diecast aluminium components for lightweight construction using innovative production methods. At this site, key components for models of the Audi, VW, Bentley and Lamborghini brands are being manufactured for the past five years.
The facility now has a total workforce of over 900 people and operates three shifts. With gradually growing production year over year, it reportedly produced some 25m vehicle components in 2018. The competence centre comprises various areas – the structural components shop, the chassis modules shop and the press shop.
The giant aluminium diecasting systems in the structural components shop are in operation round the clock. All components are almost 30 per cent lighter than conventional welded parts made from sheet steel. More than 600,000 components were made here in 2018, including strut mounts for the A4/A5 family and structural components e.g. for the new models Audi Q8 and Lamborghini Urus.
Production volume in the chassis modules shop climbed to around nine parts in 2018. Besides two lines for manufacturing wheel hubs, there are four additional lines for cast aluminium wheel carriers and forged aluminium swivel bearings for various Audi and VW models.
The press shop is where the Audi workers operate ultramodern presses for hot and cold forming.
Sustainability is what Audi says is actively addressed to at Münchsmünster site. The site reduced natural gas consumption by 6% between 2017 and 2018, and power consumption by 7% – despite running at full capacity. And since the opening of the site, natural gas consumption alone has been cut by 2,750 metric tonnes of CO2.
