
Argentina imported $54.7 billion worth of products in 2016. The country’s imports decreased during the last five years at an annualized rate of -6.705%, from $72.4 billion in 2011 to $54.7 billion in 2016.
Argentina witnessed a fall in bauxite imports in 2016. The country’s export of bauxite is projected to increase considerably this year.

International trade data shows that Argentina imported about 80763 tonnes of bauxite in 2016, down from 130130 tonnes a year ago. In 2017, the total bauxite import volume is expected to increase to 120478 tonnes.

The cost of the total bauxite import stood at USD 58 million and USD 28 million in 2015 and 2016 respectively. The cost of import is estimated to increase to USD 440 million in 2017.
China is the top supplier of bauxite to the country. China exported 69079 tonnes of bauxite last year, according to recent statistics. Brazil, the USA, Netherlands, India are the key countries from where Argentina sourced maximum volume of bauxite.
