Antam set for first Tayan alumina shipment

“The factory has been in trial operations for several months,” Antam president director Tato Miraza said on Thursday night as quoted by Antara.
Antam’s Tayan plant, which produces 300,000 tons of chemical grade alumina (CGA), is scheduled to start commercial operations in August.
Tato said the company would export 200,000 tons of CGA to Japan while the remainder would go to other Southeast Asian countries, China, South Korea and Europe, as well as the domestic market.
The factory is operated by PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina (ICA), a joint venture between Antam and Japan’s Showa Denko.
Antam owns a 80 percent stake in Indonesia Chemical Alumina while the Japanese partner holds the remaining 20 percent.
Construction of the Rp 5 trillion (around US$431 million) factory began on April 11, 2011, partly financed with loans from Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Mizuho Bank Ltd.
Alumina is a basic material for electronic goods and other high-tech products, such as Integrated Circuit LCD screens and building materials.
