Aluminum Association highlights on U.S. and Canadian market
Estimated shipments of Extruded Products by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled 1,154 million pounds in the second quarter of 2014, up 7.8 percent over the second quarter 2013 total of 1,071 million pounds. Shipments to the building and construction market, as reported by participating companies, were up 17.8 percent year-over-year and 12.1 percent compared to the previous quarter. Year-to-date shipments through the second quarter 2014 were up 6.9 percent over 2013.

Aluminum imports of ingot, scrap and mill products into the U.S. and Canada (excluding cross-border trade) totaled 524 million pounds during June 2014, up 27.7 percent over the June 2013 total of 410 million pounds. Including scrap, which accounted for about 51 percent of reported aluminum exports, exports totaled 606 million pounds in June, up 1.7 percent over a year ago. Excluding scrap, exports totaled 298 million pounds, up 12.9 percent over last year. Exports of scrap were down 7.3 percent year-over-year. During the first six months of 2014, imports rose 16.3 percent to 2,791 million pounds while exports were off 6.8 percent to 3,638 million pounds.
