It is worth noting that the company's Stage 1 Precursor Production Facility is already operational and producing 99.99 per cent pure aluminium products using its proprietary licensed solvent extraction and refining technology in commercial quantities.

The plant currently produces 5N purity aluminium-nitrate and has plans to expand its product line to include HPA, aluminium sulfate, nano HPA, and high-purity aluminium hydroxides.

The Stage 2 plant is expected to create up to 117 jobs and establish stronger supply chain links between critical mineral production and manufacturing. It is a significant development for the company, which recognizes the importance of critical minerals in the production of lithium-ion batteries, LED lights, and semiconductors. These minerals are vital in improving the performance, reliability, and safety of these products, making them more efficient and effective.

Present Premier Steven Miles announced: "Investments like Alpha HPA's are growing Queensland's critical minerals processing capability and ensuring new industries have the materials to deliver safe, sustainable, high-performing products to market."

Alpha HPA's Managing Director, Rimas Kairaitis, has expressed his appreciation for the State's recognition of the opportunities in critical mineral production and processing for new-economy products.

Kairaitis pointed out: "Assistance through the government's Industry Partnership Program for the HPA First Project builds further momentum for the project and further growth of local supply chains.

"In 2021, we signed the Central Queensland Statement of Cooperation with the Queensland Government; this commitment provided certainty for established and new industries in the Gladstone region to contribute to the goal of net zero emissions manufacturing," he added.

Outlook 2023

The grant will undoubtedly help Alpha HPA to expand its operations and continue to produce high-quality critical metal products that meet the demands of the market. Overall, this development represents a major milestone for Alpha HPA and the critical metals industry as a whole.
